Re-thinking leads to re-designing.

Looky here I have a new blue coffee table, I have been admiring a blue round table at Homesense, it is $149.00 what a bargain , but I have a round coffee table so I couldn't buy it , right? that would be wrong , perhaps I could sell my existing one and buy the new one, no that is just silly, after all I already have a surplus with one extra coffee table taking up space in the basement. The other table did have quite a nice detail in the leg , it is hard to describe so I won't even try .
This Ikea table is my table , it was our kitchen table from about 7 years ago then like many other unused things it ended up in the basement , until I though it would make a great outdoor coffee table and it did , then when we put in the dark floors it came in was painted cream and was waiting for me to make a slip cover for it to become a big round ottoman like the photo of the blue velvet one, well that never happened , but after seeing the photos of the last post I was inspired to go ahead and paint it blue , I have enough shades just laying around so why not? I was very much in love with those colorful spaces.

Since this is a child friendly house , and because I like it , I distressed the table ,you can see the wood , the white the cream , I love that.

This is a bit of a backwards post sorry for that , but this is my top coat of choice , a couple of coats of clear wax, stinks up a storm but I really like it , three coats of this miss tint cheap paint , this was one of those free makeovers.

Here is the before , it was needing a new coat of cream at least , I am so pleased I tried the blue it looks so fresh and happy, I wish it was so easy to give my settee a fresh look, but I do believe I found a lady who will create slipcover magic for me ,I just have to decide on a fabric that doesn't cost the earth.


So if you need a new coffee table start looking at dining tables it is not hard to cut down the legs, also because I do find that many coffee tables out there are simply too small , they seem to be made for condos, there is nothing worse than not enough coffee table, it should be at least big enough for a large pizza and all the fixings . So go one take a look at your coffee table or lack there of , its time to think outside the box and have an open mind.

A little this a little that

Here is how the frames turned out they look so sweet filled with family photos in black and white, these are just simple at home printed out copies , how easy , the tough part was choosing which ones to use.The swan always remains on this cupboard it was given to us by an old neighbour it looks very beachy to me , I have got to do something with that "coral" not liking the pink.

Mason always complains I don't show her room , that is because normally it is a full blown disaster , but since I recently cleaned it and the new window treatment were put up etc etc she has been keeping it wonderfully tidy , she uses the top bunk as her hang out , the safety rail has been taken off but her friends were just causing it damage and they are old enough not to fall most times , so much easier to make the bed now. Won't that bed look lovely white.
I picked up this adorable clock at Homesense and decided it wasn't something I needed , than Mason saw it and had to have it , for her green room , it is cute , she put it up herself , wow !, not bad , not bad. Kind of an odd spot , I may out it above the mirror or at least center the clock over the bunk , I will wait a bit for that . Oh and I tried to talk her out of hanging up that frog , but there was a hole and she just needed it there. No more ugly frogs, yuck , we are starting to get every old frog thing, I used to love bird houses then I got them all the time, it takes away from the specialness, now I hate them mostly.

This is how the sitting area turned out , I still think I should clad the fence with panels and mouldings , and paint it all white. Oh who am I kidding I am still not happy with it , it is off.

On the other hand while trying to solve my fence problem I found this wing plaque I love how it looks , such a beautiful piece , stuff to look at while you are waiting for someone to answer the door right.

And the "girls" bathroom company ready , the mirror is all finished painted trimmed out , all from scrap pieces left around from other projects , a major improvement from a sheet of glass.

Just need a great tap , funny new taps was on the top of my list when we moved in here but so many other details have some before them.

after searching and finding some really pretty fabrics that did not appeal to my 10 year old and her finding things that were thin or cheap or inappropriate for curtains, I decided while she was out to try this fabric that I thought was perfect the greens the blue, they are short because there will be a double dresser under that window on Thursday as I have found the perfect Nantucket style white dresser and it is on its way , I imagine that girls from 10-18 only begin to get more and more into clothes so I am getting ready with lots of storage, since she doesn't have a dresser in her room right now , I imagine it is about time.
I love the drapes , they are very vintage quirky.
I gave Mason my fave white Nantucket mirror for her room tired of her having hand me downs and left overs and I moved around a few things like usual and found room for the weathered frames I got for a bargain , I also found these two salvage beachy frames , now this is beachy. I am working on printing out the black and white photos right after this post is complete.
