Yes I use box cake mix and I don't feel guilty about it at all.

I took a small amount of fondant and set it aside , about a golf ball size, to use for the flowers.

These are fondant tools , you can get a kit with shape cut outs and handles tools used for thinning the fondant to make more realistic flowers and leaves , I tend to keep it simple.

This was my very first time making rolled fondant , I had made it once from a Wilton pre-mix powder , but I knew it would be good to learn it from scratch , this is a simple recipe , not hard to but very messy , and sticky , but well worth it , when I finally got that ball of fondant it was very rewarding indeed, like I DID IT! oh an it is really yummy too , the kids loved it .
Having a handy little helper is a must have .
