Flooring finishes

So we are working away a little at a time on the guest house , We have the roof shingled and it is now officially water tight , the siding shingles are about half way done , the inside just needs beadboard panelling and flooring and trim ... Not too far now . The flooring will be pine v- groove and now I am wondering what finish , it could be stained but I only like dark stains and I think we want to make it as light as possible , so do I do simple white floors or white and blue stripes ... ? It's so hard to choose ??? Your thoughts would be appreciated , thanks
I promise to take some pictures for the blog soon , it's just not quite ready for it's close up!

I'm a sucker for a dark dark floor and then light walls, furniture, rugs, etc... However, if anyone can make light or striped floors work, it'd be you!

You can mix and change your decorating colors easier that way!

Hi Chris, Just recently found your blog and I LOVE it!!! Love the new guest house and all your ideas. I looove dark woods floors but I think in a small space lighter floors would be a must. I love cottagey/beachy looking homes with the white or white washed floors. Do you think you could find examples of the flooring you are thinking of we and we could all vote???

I agree with E. Hayes especially for a beachy look but I guess it depends what other colors you're looking at. For me, that house you have the picture of from House of Turquoise is just too white. The pine flooring sounds great but would it be so terrible to use just the natural pine color? I guess I'm not very daring. My curious side would like to see what you do with the blue stripes. :-) Go for it!

I vote white and blue stripes. Remember the coffee table you just sanded that revealed stripes...it looked pretty awesome. How awesome would that look on the floor!!!

I say keep it light and "beachy" feeling with light coloured floors :)
Plus where else will you get a chance to do a white floor?!

I vote for blue and white striped floors! Ever since I saw Sarah Richardson doing striped floors on her cottage reno - I have wanted to try striped floors. Your lovely little cottage would be a perfect place for it.
