Ikea Slipcovered Sofa's

Click on the image to get a close-up look if you dare.

I get many many emails about my Ikea Ektorp pieces , I know many are skeptical of Ikea items , I am sure we have bought something that seemed like a good idea but turned out to be throw away piece , we had one , an entertainment unit that we had moved three times with us , it was heavy and unsteady and never the same after that , we convinced the purchaser of our last house to keep it and use it as a computer center as we had , we knew it could not sustain another move but was otherwise fine , certainly if we would rather give it away then try to move it .

Anyway back to the sofa's , we started out buying the arm chair of this series when our first daughter was 2 years old , she is now 11 and it is still in great shape although we have needed to buy multiple slipcovers, which is well worth it I think .
You can see just why I am a big fan of these slipcovered and very affordable sofas, the left shows how raggedy and dirty the couch was after a few weeks of kids and dogs abusing it , and the right is after I threw it in the washer and dryer { this one is not cotton or it would have been line dried} , ah there is nothing better than a freshly laundered sofa , it looks and feels just like new , the stains are gone and it is ready for more abuse .
You can certainly call me an Ikea fan , ah heck you can definately call me a fan of all fitted slipcovered furniture.

We have the Ektorp sectional and LOVE it! My sister bought it 4 years ago with a white slipcover, but spilled mustard on it and banished it to the garage. She was going to throw it away, but we asked for it. $200 for a tan slipcover at Ikea and it's a new couch! We have a HUGE dog and a 19-month old and it still looks new (after throwing it in the wash).

I JUST wrote a blog entry about my trip to Ikea to get an Ektorp Jennylund chair! I had my doubts, but I was really pleased with the purchase. What's more, the slipcover matches the one on the Michell Gold & Bob Williams sofa I just ordered...which had me questioning my big purchase. The Ektorp sofa looks great!

I want one so bad but everyone makes fun of me for wanting four kids and a white couch. Denver is getting an IKEA next year and I am so excited!!! I am not sure if it is a good or bad thing that it will be less than 10 minutes away from my house.

I have the same furniture and I LOVE my sofa, love seat and 2 arm chairs!!! I bought mine almost a year ago. Ikea had a deal when you purchased a cover you got a free white cover as well with the furniture. What a great deal : ) I have had many compliments on how comfy the furniture is. And as you when my kids have had their way with the covers I just throw them in the wash. Aja

This couch has been a constant debate in our household for YEARS. We were so worried that it wouldn't hold up! And then when we decided it would, we couldn't chose a color. I wanted white, the husband wanted tan.

I am SO happy to read this. I've been debating an Ektorp purchase, but wasn't sure about the quality....

I've had a white slipcovered sofa and wing chairs for over 18 years now and NEVER regretted it. Kids, dogs, all goes away with a half a day of removal, wash, dry and putting them back on. I've only had the zippers replaced as they get messed up now and again. Now I put white towels over everything during the normal "lived in" days and just pull them off when company comes. I love having white and changing the moods each season with pillows. Crisp-clean and ALWAYS pretty.

I have just purchased a sofa with white slip covers. I have been nervous as heck about my choice, but it is in a beach house we just bought. So, not the traffic year round that we are used to. This post was just what I needed to read after being convinced I would find them easy to care for. My little puppy already enjoys the "seating" so I can see I will be learning quickly how to care for them. :) I appreciate this post and love your blog everyday.

Love the sofa-so pretty.

I am starting a NEW Mr. Linky party. It will begin on Aug 10th so everyone will have a week and a half to think about their first post. I have a poll up for votes on which button should be the new button. The "party" is called The Knock Off Knock Out-where THRIFTY meets creative sensation. Go over and learn more about the new weekly event and I would appreciate if you would cast your vote and HELP pick the new button design and its the last week for the July GIVE-A-Way, if you would like to be a part of that event..

My mother wants the exact kind of sofa. She gets a little loopy whenever she sees that the sofa is dirty, but can't do anything about it, since our sofa is not slipcovered and cannot be put in the laundry. :(

Chris, love your post. You know my little problem with the white slipcover and how I wanted to preserve it so badly, so went out and got a tan/white check one that was discontinued at Ikea. My sectional is fabulous and it fits the room so well, and now I have the white one to look forward to in about a year when my little one can understand, "go wash your hands and face please". The slipcover has been on there for over two months and is holding up well.
I had another more expensive white slipcovered sofa and loveseat and the cover just wore out after about 8 years. One day I will have the bucks to replace it. (They wanted $600 to replace it - ha ha). So that's why we went with the Ektorp sectional. LOVE IT SO MUCH! And it's lightweight and easy to move and there's storage underneath (I bought some baskets that fit perfectly in the as-is section).
And I agree with you, the freshly laundered smell is to die for!
Love your blog still!!!!
We're having a giveaway btw...and a new blog design blog opening August 1st! You could win something fabulous! The gal that does Nie Nie's blog is opening shop again. Yay!

I just bought a non-slipcovered sofa this week in a light colour and I am expecting my first baby. I hope I am not crazy

However -- we need 2 sofas -- cause we have 2 living rooms. So I am hoping to get an Ektorp for the less formal room! I am SO HAPPY you posted this!

Ikea sofa and chairs became very popular in the recent few years. You can use them even in your lawn or inside your home too.

Sofa slipcovers are designed to be easy to fit over existing upholstery, to give your furniture a fresh new look and protect the fabric underneath. Furniture slipcovers are a quick and affordable alternative to re-upholstery or buying a new suite.

Good to share..........

What color is your cover? I'm unsure if I want white or beige. We have an 18 month old, 2 dogs and 2 cats...I think either color will be a losing battle lol
